The Benefits of Long-Term Storage

The Benefits of Long-Term Storage

When I started a new job a few years ago, I had no idea how frequently I would be moving. Unfortunately, I found myself relocating every few months, and I realized that I didn't want to take all of my stuff with me every time. Instead of getting rid of half of my belongings, I decided to rent a storage unit. In addition to making it easy to simply stash my things when I had to hit the road, my storage unit also became a dynamic, easy place to store things like holiday decorations and clothes my kids had outgrown. This blog is all about the benefits of long-term storage, so that you can use your unit to its full potential.

3 Things To Transport Yourself During Your Upcoming Move

Moving from one place to another is so much easier when you hire a company to help you with this, but there are certain things you should never pack in the moving truck. There are also certain things a moving company will not even move for you, and it is important to ask your moving company what these things are. Here are three things you should not let the moving company transport for you, even if they would be willing to.

Cash

If you have a lot of cash in your house, you might be tempted to hide it in a box and let the moving company transport it for you. While you might not experience problems with this, it is better not to take any chances. If the money ended up missing when you arrived at your new house, it could be hard to pinpoint what happened to it. Because of the risks involved, your moving company might prohibit moving cash.

Important Financial Documents

You should also avoid packing up your important financial documents for your movers to transport. In fact, some moving companies will not even move documents like this because of the risks. This includes:

  • Bank statements
  • Birth certificates
  • Deeds to property
  • Car titles
  • Marriage licenses
  • Stocks and bonds

These types of documents are hard to replace, and you will be better off packing them up and bringing them with you in your own vehicle when you move.

Items Of Extreme Value

Finally, if you have items that are extremely valuable, you may be better off bringing them with you. This can include things that are worth a lot of money to you, or things that have a lot of sentimental value to you. For example, if you have picture albums full of photos of your children, you may want to take extra care not to lose these. To do this, you could pack them and place them in the trunk of your car. This can also include collections that are worth money, such as stamps or fur coats, or anything else that is of value to you.

Your moving company will provide insurance coverage for your move, but it can be hard to place a dollar amount on things that are very meaningful to you. If you would like to learn more tips on packing or about the things you should not pack away for the movers, contact a moving company, like DJ's Moving & Logistics, today.
